Featuring headline acts The Mystery Jets and Turin Brakes, Guildford’s newest festival will be held at Stoke Park this September.

Always the Sun Music & Arts Festival is being organised by The Boileroom and is named after the song by Guildford’s own The Stranglers. It promises to have plenty of big names and ways to get creative over the two day celebration of music and art.

Along with the above, The Stranglers’ own former vocalist Hugh Cornwell, Dub Pistols and The Allergies will also be performing along with many others on the main stage; the DIY Stage will be curated with even more musical acts to guarantee that you have something great to listen to – whether it’s music that’s totally new to you or the songs that you know word for word.

If you feel like a change from all the music, then there’s several other areas of the festival that you can visit, including All the World’s a Stage, featuring a variety of performances in comedy, street dance, theatre and more to keep you entertained.

All the Sun Fest BLRM

The Outdoor Kitchen will gather several chefs such as The Great British Bake Off contestant Stu Henshall to judge the festivals own bake off; Masterchef finalist and restaurant owner Dan Britton will be showing you how to make delicious meals from the food that people often waste.

The Crafty Peacock will be the hub of all things craft, several workshops will be in place to get you stuck into yarnboming, ceramics, jewellery, painting – perfect for children and adults alike!

The Imaginarium is the place to be if you want to experience the joy of play and interaction, mad science experiments, amazing demonstrations of skill and sensory workshops to really engage your mind.

With a festival like this, it’s clear that September is a month to really look forward to – let’s hope that it catches the last of the summer sun, so that we can truly enjoy Always the Sun.

The festival will be held on September 10-11. Click here for more info and tickets.

This Bank Holiday Monday Guildford welcomed the Surrey County Show, a celebration of all the best agriculture, farming displays and livestock.

In addition to the displays, many stalls selling the finest Artisan crafts and food, as well as local produce were in abundance at the show.

The event was also filled with entertainment, including James Dylan’s Stunt World, an exciting motocross show, the Pilgrim Morris Men performing traditional dancing, and competitions for the best livestock and farming produce.

This year was the 62nd event, which is famed for hosting the country’s best traders and farmers, who have an opportunity to show off all their hard work from the year.

The show is run by the ‘Surrey County Agricultural Society’ and with support from the farming community and the people of Surrey found success in bringing people together and promoting the huge amount of talent and skill possessed by local farmers.

Despite the traditional element the event was kept fresh with the introduction of new companies and motorsports, creating a perfect balance of new and old and creating a perfect celebration of what Surrey has to offer.

Clybourne Park

This razor-sharp satire lifts the lid on race and real estate in a fictional Chicago neighborhood. The swinging sixties are just around the corner as a black family move into a suburban white enclave, triggering all too predictable mutterings from the neighbours. Fifty years on, we return to the same house in 2009 as gentrification sets in and the roles are reversed.

Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike since its debut on Broadway in 2009, Clybourne Park has been awarded Best Play at the Olivier Awards, the Evening Standard Best Play Award, the South Bank Sky Arts Theatre Award and Critics’ Circle Best Play Award.

Tickets cost £21 to £32.50 plus booking fees. Contains very strong language, recommended for ages 16+.

Big Girls Don’t Cry

During the 60s and 70s No1 hits Sherry, December 1963 (Oh What a Night), Walk Like a Man, Rag Doll and Big Girls Don’t Cry saw the Four Seasons and lead singer Frankie Valli propelled to super stardom.

Big Girls Don’t Cry authentically revives the sublime harmonies of New Jersey’s finest. It showcases Frankie’s incredible falsettos, and features solo hits that range from the exuberant – the rock’n’roll nostalgia of Grease,  to the spine-tingling show-stealers such as My Eyes Adored You.

Drawing from a repertoire that includes Let’s Hang On, Working My Way Back to You, Beggin’, Who Loves You and I’ve Got You Under My Skin you’re never more than a song away from another classic hit.  Don’t miss this critically-acclaimed spectacle.

Standard tickets cost £23 plus booking fees.

Tickets cost: adults £29, senior citizens £29, students £5, children aged 7-21 years £5. There will be free parking on site.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
G Live, London Rd, Guildford GU1 2AA
Saturday 7.30pm

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra brings our 2015/16 season to a rousing conclusion with Tchaikovsky’s epic Symphony No. 5, a piece with a hauntingly slow movement and elemental finale. Conducted by Fabien Gabel, the concert will begin with Borodin’s richly colourful Prince Igor Overture and then the supremely talented Alexandra Dariescu will perform Rachmaninov’s virtuosic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

Tickets Cost £23 to £39.50, children and students £10 plus booking fees.

Mitch Benn
G Live, London Rd, Guildford GU1 2AA
Saturday at 8pm

“I’m a skeptic. But don’t take my word for it. Or indeed anybody’s. For anything….” this is the basic premise of Mitch’s new critically acclaimed show.  It’s a show that will make you laugh a lot and even think a bit as well as Mitch debunks myths, exposes nonsense and grapples with the very nature of knowledge itself extolling the virtues of an evidence-based approach to life… with amusing consequences and of course a few songs along the way.

The ‘Now Show’ aside, Mitch has recently co-presented with Harry Shearer BBC Radio 2’s Anatomy Of A Guitar as well as performing Mitch Benn Is The 37th Beatle and presenting Spank The Plank both for BBC Radio 4, with further work commissioned by BBC Radio 4.

Firmly established as one of the UK’s most popular family days out, what better way to spend your August bank holiday weekend than channeling your inner motor enthusiast at wings and wheels this year?

With such a huge variety of activities on 0ffer, the event is catered to suit everyone, regardless of your age and interests.

Visitors are treated to five hour air displays which have previously included favourites: The red arrows, BBMF, The Blades, Team Breitling Wingwalkers and the Avro Vulcan.

However, if planes aren’t really your scene, the military zone and parade certainly add some classic nostalgia, as the regal military vehicles complete a cavalcade for spectators before taking their place in the zone’s living history and reenactment displays, including live battles.
