Guildford residents showed up in their hundreds to public exhibitions to have their say on the proposed ideas. Discovering what they want for Guildford is now underway.

Ideas for key areas of development were up for consideration, such as a new riverside community park and streets designed to be better for pedestrians.

Consultation on the draft for the Town Centre Masterplan ended after six weeks on 16 November. The work needed to find out what residents think of the plans has already begun, and an update on its progress should be released in early 2016.

Councillor Paul Spooner, Lead for Planning and Regeneration has said:

“This process has involved many individuals, organisations and groups. Parish councils, residents associations, businesses, everyone has had the opportunity to review the proposals and contribute their thoughts and ideas.

“What we want to understand is whether the ideas put forward match local people’s ambitions for Guildford’s future. Early indications show we are on the right track.

“An important part of this process is extracting parts of the draft Town Centre Masterplan that will fit with the local plan. Although the eventual Town Centre Masterplan will not be a statutory planning document, it will be an important piece of work outlining our intention for future development. After the consultation results, we will then look to see what parts we should progress for the final plan.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank local people for sharing their views and taking part in this important next step in Guildford’s future.”

Councillor Matt Furniss, Lead for Transport and Infrastructure added that:

“We have met with many people to talk through the proposals and what has struck us is how passionate people are about their town’s future. I have sought to find out what local residents think of better pedestrianised access to the town. If this is what they want, as outlined in the proposed ideas, then we will seek to deliver a transport strategy to match along with our partners including Surrey County Council and the Highways Agency. The town centre transport and infrastructure improvements are a part of the overall proposals for the borough wide transport strategy.

“Our analysis of the feedback will expose what local people believe to be right for the town, the next stage will be for us to consider how we make change happen over the coming years.”

You can see further information on the proposed ideas for the draft Town Centre Masterplan and updates to the project by visiting www.guildford.gov.uk/tcmp

Why not head on down to Hurtwood Polo Club on Saturday September 5 and enjoy a stellar line up of polo, cars and music in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones (‘The Faces’) are just a few names set to join the line-up and to top it off, the day will also offer the traditional properties of polo with the added benefit of a high array of high performance super cars on display.

Jones said ‘This is the third Rock ‘n’ Horsepower we’ve put on for Prostate Cancer UK and it’s shaping to be the biggest yet.’

There will be a variety of catering units at the event selling both hot and cold food and drinks. There are bars selling a wide range of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

Loseley Park host their first teddy bears picnic on Sunday August 9 in behalf of Shooting Star Chase.

The event is being run in partnership with shooting star chase to raise funds for their children’s hospice care.

Activities include traditional fete games (pick-a-lolly, coin rolling and hook-a-duck), story-telling, face painting, garden treasure hunt, giant garden games and, of course, “the most original teddy bear competition” which will be judged by Guildford’s Deputy Mayor.

Shooting Star chase is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. It costs £9.5 million a year just to maintain their current level of care and it is your generosity that keeps them alive.

There will be children’s gifts and clothing for sale and all the proceeds will be going to charity. As such, you can splash out relatively guilt-free!

The main house will stay open for those who want to soak up a little history in the great Elizabethan Hall throughout the course of the day, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Families are welcome to bring their own picnic, but there will be freshly made pizzas from Caper & Berry’s mobile pizza oven as well as a Peroni and Pimms bar for the adults.

The family friendly event runs between 11am and 5pm.

We all know just how temperamental this British summer weather can be, so the park have even prepared an indoor wet-weather option – the beautiful tithe barn. As such, there will be no need for a last minute change of plans, whatever the weather!

Tickets: Adult £5, children go in free of charge.

This is not a ticketed event and there is no need to book in advance.

Loseley Park is situated on the B3000 New Pond road and the main entrance is in Stakescorner Road, signposted “Loseley House”.
