Readers’ Day
G Live, 10am-4pm, £29 (includes lunch and a goody bag of books)
Readers’ Day is a mini festival all in one. With eight fabulous authors visiting in one day you’ll be privy to a wonderful array of thoughts on inspiration, aspiration and the authors’ working methods. The event is hosted by Guy Pringle, founder of newbooks magazine who will interview all eight authors. You’ll also have the opportunity to join smaller breakout groups and get up close and personal with your favourite authors. This is a fabulous chance to share your reading enthusiasm with others and to discover new ideas about what you should read next.

Toby Faber: 90 years of Publishing Excellence; Faber and Faber
Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, 10am, £15
Toby Faber shares the secrets of the success of his family’s iconic publishing company, Faber and Faber; its history, the essential art of book cover design and the hits and misses it has enjoyed during its 90 years in business.

Frank Woodgate: The Art and Scandalous Lives of the Bloomsbury Group
Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, 2pm, £15
Renowned NADFAS lecturer Frank Woodgate throws a spotlight on the Bloomsbury Group, a hugely influential, intellectual, literary and artistic set of friends who scandalised society with their avant-garde views, art and lifestyle – their legacy still resonates today. There’s even a local, Guildford link!

Irving Finkel: The Ark before Noah
The Electric Theatre, 5pm, £6, £5 Concessions & Under 16
Brilliant, funny and erudite Dr. Irving Finkel, curator at The British Museum, recounts the extraordinary discovery of an ancient cuneiform tablet from 1850BC telling the Flood story, with detailed instructions for building the Ark! As his tales entertain and surprise us, hear how the Ark has been re-created in India from its eminent first passenger.

The Invisible Woman, film screening with Q&A
Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, 7pm, £15
Based on Claire Tomalin’s biography, the film tells the story of Charles Dickens at the height of his fame, falling in love with a young actress, Ellen Ternan, who remains his mistress until his death. Q&A with Dr Florian Schweizer, Chief Executive NADFAS, formerly Director of The Dickens House Museum & Stewart Mackinnon, CEO, Headline films.

Kathy Lette: Courting Trouble
