Boileroom 8th Birthday Culture

The Boileroom’s Quentin Tarantino styled 8th Birthday Bash! (27.09.14)

The Boileroom celebrates eight years as Guildford’s Alternative Independent Live Music Venue with a rambunctious Quentin Tarantino inspired bash on Saturday 26 September.

Come dressed to impress as a character from one of the seminal director’s cult films. If you are searching for inspiration then think Uma Therman in yellow spandex from Kill Bill, Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine from Inglorious Basterds, Jamie Foxx as the eponymous hero in Django Unchained or Mr. Pink, played by Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs.

Grab a $5 milkshake from the Tiki bar in the garden or a frozen Margarita from the Titty Twister bar; dine from the House Of Blue Leaves noodle bar or enter Jack Rabbit Slim’s dance competition to win a bottle of bubbly and a meal for two! And don’t forget… “Shots first, questions later!” with Slippery Nipples and Adrenalin shots to keep the blood pumping- available at the bar.

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £8 in advance, with this being a strictly over 18’s night. There will be entertainment from DJ’s and live music from Swansea based group, ‘A Band Apart’ who embody the slick style and attitude of this monumental director. They will be in sharp costumes and playing all the hits you want to hear from Jackie Brown, Dusk Til Dawn, Deathproof and who could forget, Pulp Fiction; we expect to see some John Travolta style moves on the dance floor!

And if you haven’t been reading the local news recently, then you won’t have realised that The Boileroom has a dual reason to celebrate this weekend… After a contentious Council hearing last Friday after some neighbourhood complaints, it was announced that Guildford’s favourite independent venue would be allowed to remain open.

The venue submitted a set of five licensing amendments that included closing the garden slightly earlier and turning down the decibel levels to show willingness to appease their neighbours’ concerns. Guildford Borough Council were happy to implement these and hopefully The Boileroom will continue to entertain Guildford audiences for years more to come!
