Each week we provide a comprehensive guide to all that is going on and The Weekend Guide this week covers the Friday evening of December 5 through to Sunday 7. We will endeavour to provide you with all the local information for each weekend, whether it is going for a drink, listening to some live music, going to the theatre, watching our local sports teams or anything else Guildford has to offer. Friday Night (05.12.14)
The Wind in the Willows, 5pm & 8pm, The Mill Studio, £11. After recent successes including Fantastic Mr Fox, Just So Stories and Pinocchio, Act Three tackles this exciting adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s timeless children’s classic story. Presented by one arm of the Yvonne Arnaud’s Youth Theatre, directed by Lucy Betts, Book and Lyrics by Adam Forde, with Music and Musical Direction by David Perkins.
Charity Gala Concert and Art Exhibition, 6.30pm, Holy Trinity Church, adults £10, children £5. Seaford College Choir will be performing a range of songs and carols on behalf of Guildford-based halow project, which helps young people with a learning disabilities. In addition, the charity will be exhibiting images of young people who took part in a photographic and mixed media art project earlier in the year. The exhibition brings together a range of images showing how halow young people see themselves, feel about their images and would like others to see them.
The E-Lites Night of Champions 2, 7pm, Guildford Spectrum, tickets start from £25. Four of the best professional darts players on the planet are on show for The E-Lites Night of Champions 2 this Friday. A top quality quartet including world number one and reigning World Champion Michael van Gerwen, five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld, seven-time major winner James Wade and double World Champion Adrian Lewis will do battle.
Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, 7pm, The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, tickets from £19. There’s something for everyone in this all-singing, all-dancing production as fun, magic and spectacle combine in true Guildford Style. Star name Josie Lawrence, of Whose Line Is It Anyway? will be making her pantomime debut, whilst performers from both Guildford School of Acting (GSA) and Performance Preparation Academy (PPA) will be involved.
Advent carols by candlelight service, 7.30pm, St Mary’s Church, free entry. Join Christian Aid for their Carols by Candlelight services to celebrate Advent and learn about their partners’ work to improve maternal health in Kenya. Come along to this Carols by Candlelight service for this unique chance to hear how your support can make a difference at the very beginning of life.
Medieval Banquet, 7.30pm, Guildford Guildhall, £60. Experience the revelry of medieval Christmas traditions – Noble fold of the shires, dust off your finest tunics and gowns and join with the medieval merrymakers. Music, dance and the delights of our finest players will enthral you and engage you this crisply cold and festive evening as we come together to celebrate the wondrous twelve nights of Christmas and feast on Sir Peachey’s sublime array of dishes.
In Dynamics, 7.30pm, The Boileroom, £5. The band have spent the last few months playing shows alongside the likes of The Subways, Arcane Roots, Feed The Rhino, Sonic Boom Six, and Blitz Kids as well as appearing on a live session next to We Are The Ocean. In Dynamics are definitely on their way to big things and will be supported on the night by LTNT + Rootwork + Lazarus.
Emerging Music, 8pm, The Keystone, free entry. A night showcasing the best local musical talent in the area with two for £10 on Fish & Chips, sharing plates and large glasses of house wine- what more could you want on a Friday evening? A supportive platform helping musicians try new material and support the arts in Guildford at this pub fused with creativity!
Tropicana Nights, 8pm, G Live, £9. If you are looking for a fun filled evening of pure 80s music and dancing for the over 25s, then look no further. Specialising in good old fashioned party nights, there’s a guarantee that you and your friends will have an incredible night. So, whether you go all out in your favourite 80s outfit or not, you are bound to get in the party mood as soon as you walk into the room.

Everyone knows the age-old tale of Mr Whittington: Dick meets pussy and they go on an adventure together- with a set-up line like that, what’s not to enjoy? Join your friends and colleagues for this year’s adult panto from the Guildford Fringe team – behind the sell-out Cinders in 2013. Strictly Over 18′s.
Chris Jenkins, 8.30pm, Bar des Arts, free entry. Gorgeous Chris will be impressing the audience with his repertoire of songs and stunning voice playing some of his classic songs. Chris is a singer/songwriter who was signed after his first album ‘Shooting Lead Rabbits’ reached wide critical acclaim and recently he has been approached to write the soundtrack and be sound supervisor for the upcoming feature film ‘Maynard’- set to be released in cinemas worldwide.
Saturday (06.12.14)
Storytelling weekend, 10.30am, RHS Garden Wisley, normal garden costs apply. Members of the RHS Garden Wisley Team will choose their favourite spellbinding stories from the Wisley Shop to read to lots of different age groups in the build up to Christmas. So head down for some enchanting and festive tales in a beautifully serene setting!

Comedy Club 4 Kids, 3pm, G Live, £10. The Comedy Club 4 Kids gives cracking entertainment for everyone over six years old and under 400 years old (no vampires or Highlanders). It has all the best comedians from the UK and world circuit doing what they do best… but without the rude bits!
Guildford City FC v Mole Valley, 3pm, Guildford Spectrum, Adults £8, Children £4. After last weekend’s game against Epsom & Ewell was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, this will be new manager Donovan Chislett’s first chance to take charge of the boys. Their last result was a demoralising 6-1 defeat away at Spelthorne that eventually cost Kevin Rayner his job, but Guildford will be hoping to take 3 points on Saturday to potentially lift them out of the bottom three.
A Night At The Musicals, 7pm, Guildford Spike, £15. The Spike present A Night at the Musicals – the Down and Out Players will provide pre-show entertainment, followed by Showdown Theatre Students performing hits from the Musicals. There will be pre-show canapes and wine from 7pm, with a raffle taking place with all proceeds going to Tourettes Action.
A Candlelit Christmas Concert with Russell Watson, 7pm, Guildford Cathedral, tickets from £39.50. Russell Watson will be embarking on a unique tour taking in some of the nation’s most beautiful Cathedrals for a very special candlelight Christmas concert with a choir. Russell is officially the UK’s best-selling classical artist ever, winning four Classical BRITS along the way. He has performed for some of the world’s greatest figures including, HM The Queen, the late Pope John Paul II who requested a private audience with Russell at The Vatican, Former US President Bill Clinton, the Emperor of Japan and the King of Malaysia.
Kick Back Comedy, 7pm, The Boileroom, £12. Kick Back Comedy book the best comedians on the comedy circuit in London and around the UK, bringing top class stand-up comedy shows to Guildford at The Boileroom. All comedians are professional comics that have worked at all the major comedy clubs as well as on TV and for this show include, Jessica Fostekew, Damian Clark, Scott Capurro, Kate Smurthwaite.

SAS Band 20th Anniversary, G Live, 7.30pm, standing £35, seating £45. G Live are excited to announce that Queen’s keyboard player and musical director, Spike Edney, will be bringing his all-star band back this year for a special 20th Anniversary Performance. The line-up will feature artists who have performed with the SAS Band since their debut at The Gosport Festival in 1994. Some of the names to have performed with SAS Band so far include, Roy Wood, Chaka Khan, Roger Daltrey, Lionel Richie, Roger Taylor, Brian May, Paloma Faith and The Sugababes.

Sunday (07.12.14)
Walk around Gomshall, 9.30am, Gomshall Station, no cost. Surrey Walks Club is leading a half-day walk around Abinger Manor, Crossways Farm and Broomy Down. The walk will be five and a quarter miles in length and sure to take in some of the most beautiful sights in Surrey.
Walk from Lightwater, 10am, Lightwater Leisure Centre, no cost. This is an 11 mile walk with Guildford Rambling Club from the car park at Lightwater Leisure Centre off Guildford Road. The walk includes a picnic near The Lookout Cafe and the town of Bracknell.

Is music your passion, do you want to make music your career? Check out ACM presentations, facilities and ask any questions that you might have during this Open Day on Sunday that runs from 11am to 3pm.
Clandon Park by candlelight, 11am, Clandon Park, normal entry charges apply. Explore Clandon House by candlelight this Sunday, just as the Onslow family would have experienced it in the 18th and 19th centuries. A great pre-Christmas treat for all the family!
Aldershot Town FC v Rochdale, 2pm, Electrical Services Stadium, Adult seating/standing £19/17, Juniors seating standing £7/£5. Aldershot Town completed the first half of their league season on Saturday with a 3-1 defeat at Wrexham. The loss, coupled with results elsewhere, dropped them to 16th in the table, ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup tie. Rochdale are the visitors to the Electrical Services Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with a place in the Third Round at stake.

Guildford Flames v Bracknell Bees, 6pm, Guildford Spectrum, Adults £10.50, Children £6.50. The Flames three matching winning streak came to an end last Sunday when they came crashing down to Milton Keynes with a 4-1 defeat on the road. Guildford will have mixed thoughts going into this League-Cup match as they lost their only other meeting with Bracknell 4-1 earlier on in the season, but will take confidence from the fact that the Bees are currently sitting bottom of the league.
