Alannah Hawker Wildlife Photography Exhibition

Award-winning photographer  Alannah Hawker’s exhibition at the RT Gallery focuses on British Wildlife, more specifically wildlife with most of the images taken in Surrey. The exhibition features her award-winning photo ‘Division’ which got into the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

The exhibition also features photos of a local family of foxes that she spoke about when on BBC Springwatch earlier this year.

Alannah Hawker will be signing her work and available to chat to at the preview evening on Friday 27 between 6pm and 9pm.

Here’s our guide to some of the events taking place in Guildford this weekend.

Wheatus: 15th Anniversary Tour
Where: The Boileroom, Guildford
When:  Friday – 7.30pm

New York band reached number 2 with Teenage Dirtbag back in 2001 and reached the Top 40 again ten years again later. Celebrating their 15th anniversary they’ll be playing their debut album in full.
Support comes from singer/songwriter Mike Doughty.

Daddy McGuinness
Where: G Live
When:  Friday – 7.30pm

Paddy McGuinness comes to Guildford with his new show Daddy McGuiness, his first stand-up tour since 2011.

Vintage Guildford
Where: Guildford Cathedral
When: Saturday – 11am to 4pm

A vintage fair providing a platform for local vintage sellers, designers and makers featuring a hand-picked selection of stalls. There will also be a catwalk show, live music, pop-up salon and craft workshops.

G Live Up Close Concert: Bold As Brass
Where: G Live Bellerby Studio
When: Saturday – 2pm

Meridian Brass return to G Live as part of the Up Close Concert series, taking the audience on a journey around the world. Meet the musicians and their instruments, listen to their music and then have a go yourself. A perfect introduction to the world of classical music.

Tickets: £10 adult, £2 children. Ideal for all the family. Ages 4+.

Tropicana Nights
Where: G Live
When: Saturday – 8pm to 1am

Pure 80s music and dancing for the over 25s with  a good old fashioned party night. Come in your old 80s outfit if you still have it hanging around. Perfect for hen parties, stag parties and birthday celebrations. Over 25s only.

Tickets: £9, VIP package £19 each (reserved  seating and free cocktail, minimum 6 people).

Charity Concert for Shooting Star Chase
Where: Holy Trinity Church, Guildford
When: Saturday -  7.30pm

Jeremy Backhouse conducts the Vivace Chorus and Surrey Advanced Brass Ensemble.

The programme includes Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Rutter’s Gloria and excerpts from Orff’s Carmina Burana.

All proceeds to Shooting Star Chase Hospice.

Big Draw Workshop
Where: Guildford Library
When: Saturday 10am to 2pm

Bring your pocket contents or your bag contents along to join a relaxed drawing and colouring session with Surrey Artist Becci Kenning to see what stories are held in your pocket and that of your neighbour. All our pocket drawings and stories will be shared / displayed as we create a joint piece of art work.
