Guilford set to become Guildford-on-Sea

Guildford is set to become Guildford-on-Sea when it hosts an urban beach this month.

Experience Guildford is bringing the seaside to the town this month and will be giving the visitors an immersive and enjoyable beach experience. The Urban beach will be will be open and free to visit from August 14 to 16 between 10am to 4pm each day.

The beach will be located next to The Electric Theatre, Onslow Street and will become a sanctuary for visitors who want to relax in the sun after a long day of shopping.

Beach2Guildford-on-sea will be complete with bucketfuls of sand, deck chairs, balloons, beach huts and seaside entertainment. The Urban Beach idea was developed and delivered by Experience Guildford and supported by Guildford Borough Council.

They believe that Guildford-on-Sea adds to the ongoing events and marketing initiatives planned by the town centre’s Business Improvement District, designed to raise the profile of Guildford and drive footfall and trade to its shops, leisure and lifestyle businesses.

Charlotte Whitaker, Project Manager at Experience Guildford said: ”Bringing Guildford’s first urban beach to the town centre offers a great opportunity to show off our town and attract visitors from a larger catchment area.

“It’s something different, something fun and definitely something that can be enjoyed by everyone, young and old. Guildford-on-Sea adds to the calendar of events and activities that we have planned throughout the year to support our BID members, increasing potential customer numbers to our retail, food and drink and leisure businesses.

“It also helps us promote those less explored areas of the town centre and showcase the fantastic riverside location on which Guildford is positioned.”

This year Guildford is bringing the beach to you, so why not head down with the family to check the beach out, feel the sand between your toes and soak up the last of the British sunshine.
