Ho Ho Chinese Takeaway

Nestled snuggly in Barrack Road, just off the Stoughton Road, sits a tiny little Chinese takeaway called Ho Ho. Ho Ho’s may be hidden away, almost unnoticeable unless you are specifically looking for it, but they have built a loyal regular clientele who are always happy to spread the word. With their fantastic menu and cheap prices, coupled with the wonderfully friendly service and prompt delivery times, Ho Ho’s truly is a gem among Guildford’s takeaway businesses.

One truly noteworthy section of their menu is the set meals. Whereas most takeaways (Chinese or otherwise) usually offer set meals of a higher price range, Ho Ho’s set meals begin at an incredibly generous £6.50. This includes a large helping of beef and mushrooms with gravy, sweet and sour chicken balls and egg fried rice. Though it perhaps sounds like an odd combination, the crisp chicken balls are complimented perfectly by the rich gravy and the rice on the side is the ideal addition to complete the meal. With three options for set meals for one person, Ho Ho’s offer various alternatives for two, three and four people, with many choices to decide from.

Their wide range of appetizers hosts something to suit any palate, and the butterfly king prawns are certainly recommended. Served with lemon wedges and fried to crispy perfection, the taste is both tantalizing and comforting, with the tender meat beneath the crunchy breadcrumb crust. At £5.00 these are perfect for sharing with a dash of lemon squeezed over them.

With Malaysian and Mandarin additions to the menu along with the familiar Chinese fare, Ho Ho’s even offers fish and chips under the name House House. This is honestly a takeaway with something to offer anyone, even offering a rich vegetarian section to ensure that no one is left out!

With delivery charges at £1 for orders over £18 (though delivery is not an option for under £18), Ho Ho’s does distinguish itself in that most Chinese takeaways offer free delivery over a certain price. However the friendly staff, whether you phone for delivery or go in for collection and their highly personable service make the extra charge well worth it. The delivery drivers are always very prompt and friendly and the food always arrives steaming hot, ready for hungry customers to tuck in!

Open from 5pm to 11pm Tuesday to Saturday and 5pm to 10:30pm on Sundays, the only day you will be out of luck if you fancy some of their delicious food is Mondays when they are closed. And the only postcodes that they are unable to offer delivery to are the GU3 1xx and GU3 2XX.

Whether you fancy popping in to pick up something yourself, or you’re having a lazy evening in getting it delivered, Ho Ho’s is certainly worth checking out. View their menu HERE, or call them on 01483 566405. For collection they can be found at 38 Barrack Road, just off of Stoughton Road.
