Witnesses sought after serious sexual assault in Guildford


Surrey police are appealing the public for information and witnesses following a serious sexual assault of a young woman in Guildford.

The woman, who is in her early 20s, was victim to the sex crime in an alleyway runs behind the Sea Cadets Building and Guildford Cricket Club between Woodbridge Road and Woodbridge Meadows, on Monday June 29 at about 10.30pm.

The incident occured when the woman was approached from behind and sexually assaulted by a man, who is described as black, in his early twenties, with black curly hair, 5ft 5 inches tall, of slight build and was wearing large headphones.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Nick Ring said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim who is being supported by specially-trained officers.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and are committed to finding who is responsible.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen the man described either before or after the incident to get in touch with us immediately. Also, if you saw anybody behaving suspiciously in the area please get in touch as it could be vital to our investigation.”
