Weekend Guide 14/2 – 15/2

guildford_weather_feb14There is plenty on this weekend in Guildford. There’s family day at G Live and a weekend of sport at Surrey Sports Park so here’s our guide to it all.

At the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on Saturday is No Frills Flamenco, an evening of flamenco stripped down to its bare essence exploring some of the traditional styles. Also on Saturday are the final two performances of Guildford School of Acting’s production of Sister Act. There’s a matinee performance at 2.30pm and an evening performance at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from www.yvonne-arnaud.co.uk.

Sheffield come to Guildford to take on the Guildford Flames on the ice. Tickets from £5.50 children, £10.50 adults in advance at www.guildfordflames.com

Surrey Sports Park is home to netball and basketball this weekend. Surrey Storm Netball team hope to continue their run of success against the Celtic Dragons on Saturday at 7pm, whilst the Leicester Riders arrive to take on Surrey United in the British Basketball League on Sunday at 7.30pm.

Guildford City FC are travelling to local rivals Badshot Lea at the Shawfield Stadium in Ash.

At the G Live on Saturday it’s family day with free events in the foyer between 10am and 2pm. There’s a magic school for the whole family teaching skills to beginners to impress their friends and relatives with, it’s suitable for families with children aged 7+.  You can also learn about the history of magic with Otiz Cannelloni. Funny and informative, there are also plenty of chances to join in.

In the afternoon there’s Swinging to Victory playing hits from the war period. The 17-piece Big Band along with four singers will be performing such classics as We’ll Meet Again, Moonlight Serenade and I’ve Got Sixpence.

At the Boileroom is an alternative Valentine’s event with Kilter launching their latest album ‘We Are All Waiting To Be Alone’. Kilter mix vocal intensity with psych-rock guitar. Main support is from Hannah Dorman performing pop rock with a hint of country.
