Young Superstars Awards return to The Mill Studio in May

The ground-breaking Young Superstars Awards 2014 in affiliation with the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and Haslemere Travel, will this year take place on 9 May at the Mill Studio. The awards which are supported by Surrey Life, A+ magazine and SATRO, also help to raise awareness for local Guildford-based charity ‘Challengers’. ‘Challengers’ provide inclusive play and leisure for disabled children and young people in Surrey and are the chosen charity of this year’s key sponsor, Haslemere Travel.

The Head of Communications at ‘Challengers’, Mady Henderson, said, “We are thrilled to have been chosen as the charity for 2014’s Surrey Young Superstars. Challengers are dedicated to championing the achievements of young people; this means we are all the more excited to be part of an initiative that celebrates remarkable young people contributing to our community. We can’t wait for the nominations to start coming in!”

There are seven award categories for this year’s event, including the newly added ‘Courageous Superstar’ category. This has been put in place to reward a young person who has overcome adversity (be that illness, disability or disadvantage), to achieve and exceed their goals whilst also maintaining a positive attitude which has inspired those around them. The nominees will be judged by a panel of organisers and sponsors and the winner of the top award, ‘Superstar of the Year’, will also receive four tickets to the popular Yvonne Arnaud Christmas pantomime in 2014, in addition to their award trophy and certificate.

The full list of categories for the 2014 awards are as follows:

  • Caring Superstar
  • Volunteering Superstar
  • Business Superstar
  • Sporting Superstar
  • Fundraising Superstar (5-12 years)
  • Fundraising Superstar (13-19 years)
  • Courageous Superstar

The Surrey Young Superstars Awards were launched last year and rewarded and showcased young people’s efforts and honoured them for their hard work and achievements in Surrey. The glittering awards ceremony was hosted by top British comedian Rob Brydon and last year’s winners can be seen pictured above.

Leading independent travel agent Haslemere Travel is proud to be working in partnership with Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to organise the second Surrey Young Superstars Awards. The independent travel agency is based in Petworth Road, Haslemere and is multi award-winning in providing expert guidance and advice on destinations worldwide.

Gemma Antrobus, who is the Managing Director of Haslemere Travel, had this to say, “These awards will once again seek to be a wonderful showcase for young people in Surrey, to demonstrate their ambition and be honoured for their bravery and hard work.”

On top of this, the Funding Executive at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Madeleine Coleman added, “We are delighted to be a partner with Haslemere Travel for the Surrey Young Superstars event. To acknowledge and reward young people for their kind acts of volunteering, fundraising and charity initiatives in the local community is very important to the Theatre.”
